Queen's Cup 2026

The Queen's Cup race was a grand adventure.  Volant sailed with a crew of great friends and great sailors for this race!

The adventure was a "misadventure" right at the start with a solid fog bank off Milwaukee.  The race committee could not see the pin end of the line and called postponement of our section's start with just 15 seconds remaining before the gun!  We drifted around in the impossible-to-see chaos for almost 2 hours before our race finally got underway.

With a NE breeze and easterly course, spinnakers stayed in the bags all night.  We worked sail trim and steering angle upwind tirelessly all night, and I'm proud of how well we sailed the boat.

The boats in our section that placed stayed north of the rhumbline, sacrificing speed for height, and they experienced the wind shift from NE to E somewhat later than those below the rhumbline.  They sailed less distance than the other boats in our section, and that proved to be the difference.

We placed a respectable 8th out of 14 in our PHRF 6 section.  Our sistership Beneteau 10R Shaka, from Milwaukee, placed 4th, and Dan Emery's Fuzzy Logic placed 6th.  Here are all the Queen's Cup race results.
